Artist Talk with Ruby Djikarra Alderton | 11am

Join her for a conversation about the works, the making, and the women behind Unwavering.

Ruby is a printmaker, painter, and filmmaker whose practice is shaped by Rirratjingu clan designs inherited through her mother, the late Banduk Marika OAM, and whose grandfather Mawalan Marika was a principal signatory of the 1963 Yirrkala Bark Petitions. Her early film work is held in the QAGOMA collection.

Unwavering brings together works by Doreen Chapman, Gloria, Lena Willalang, Rekeshia Goodwin, Gladys Kuru Bidu, Denise Solly, Ruby Djikarra Alderton, Raylene Button Gordon, Maywokka (Mayiwalku) Chapman, Mulyatjinki (Muljadingi) Marney, Lorna Dawson, Crystal Gardiner, Daisy Tinker, and Maggie Green. Their works are an act of grace, not a document of hardship.

As Ruby describes it:

“Although our lives may be riddled with heaviness, pain, trauma, grief, we as artists have chosen to express and continue to heal ourselves from these harsh realities with a gentle, tender, soft palette.”

Unwavering runs at FORM Gallery 10 July until 30 August 2026
