A celebration of the unwavering strength and fierceness of Indigenous women residing in the Pilbara region. Aboriginal art centres across the country play a pivotal role in providing a place of belonging for Mob, safe spaces to express ourselves without judgment, a place to heal and they create an environment for generational exchanges and learning.
Although our lives may be riddled with heaviness, pain, trauma, grief, we as artists have chosen to express and continue to heal ourselves from these harsh realities with gentle, tender, soft pallet.
Fourteen artists from Spinifex Hill Studio in South Hedland bring their work to FORM Gallery in Perth on 9 July 2026, in Unwavering: a major new exhibition curated by Yolngu artist and printmaker Ruby Djikarra Alderton. A celebration of the unwavering strength and fierceness of Aboriginal women living in the Pilbara, the exhibition runs to 30 August 2026 and marks Ruby’s first major curatorial undertaking.
Unwavering brings together works by Doreen Chapman, Gloria, Lena Willalang, Rekeshia Goodwin, Gladys Kuru Bidu, Denise Solly, Ruby Djikarra Alderton, Raylene Button Gordon, Maywokka (Mayiwalku) Chapman, Mulyatjinki (Muljadingi) Marney, Lorna Dawson, Crystal Gardiner, Daisy Tinker, and Maggie Green. Their works are an act of grace, not a document of hardship.
As Ruby describes it:
“Although our lives may be riddled with heaviness, pain, trauma, grief, we as artists have chosen to express and continue to heal ourselves from these harsh realities with a gentle, tender, soft palette.”
