As part of Albany 2026, FORM Building a State of Creativity presents Balgang Albany - three events focused on looking out, listening into, and walking through the landscapes and stories of Albany: the Australian-first Lighting the Sound with internationally renowned Finnish artist Kari Kola.
Lighting the Sound | March 2026
Launching the Albany 2026 celebrations, Lighting the Sound will take place across three weekends 13, 14 & 15 March 2026; 20, 21 & 22 March 2026; and 27, 28 & 29 March 2026.
Lighting the Sound is an Australian-first event produced by FORM in collaboration with internationally renowned Finnish artist Kari Kola, and in consultation with the Albany community.
Kari Kola’s work is inspired by the Menang (or Bloodroot) plant, for which the region’s First Nations peoples are named, and it gestures towards elements of reconciliation and intergenerational transfer of knowledge through broad interpretations of story.
This dramatic illumination of thousands of hectares of the landforms around King George’s Sound is anticipated to be the largest light installation on Earth in history.
